Obliteration – “Torn In Two” from the “Dying Age” 4-song demo, 1997. Obliteration from Oklahoma City, OK was a christian death metal band in the mid to late 1990s (we were just one of several bands to bear the name, but we were the only christian one). I was the vocalist of the band. When the Dying Age demo was released (and then rereleased on the Chords of the Grave compilation a year later on Cross Rhythms Music, which later became “Blastbeats Music”), I was only 17 or 18 years old. Here we are 22 years later, and I just wanted to revisit my old band to see how my vocals stacked up to the original vocals. Overall, I think they’ve held up okay. The one difference I can immediately see is the diminished lung capacity. I can no longer hold out notes as long as I used to be able to. 20+ years of smoking will do that to you. :-/ Luckily, I quit six years ago! It’s only my death metal vocals that are hard for me to sustain long notes. Any other style of vocals, and I can hold notes out forever. So anyway, 17 year old me? Meet 40 year old me. And the METAL still reigns supreme! \m/\m/
